It is recommended that the air conditioner circuit breaker be switched to the OFF position for winter and turned back on at least 24 hours before operating the air conditioner in spring. This prevents an accidental “startup” of the air conditioning unit during winter months. It also prevents small amounts of condensation from forming on the copper lines inside the basement that are connected to the unit which may drip onto the floor.
